rainbow brite

i forgot to mention that i bought this scarf from the state fair yesterday. i already have a really similar one, but i told myself that it was worth having the jarringly bright color combo. i'd be afraid to run into these guys on the street while wearing it, though, because i'm pretty sure that they exude some kind of gravitational force that causes any bright nearby object to fly off and stick to them like a magnet:

yeah, i'm going with that theory.

yellow fever

made this the other night and wore it out to a dance party. it looks BOMB with a black tube top and black leggings and i'll have it over a black turtleneck once it gets colder. i'm going to make another one out of the same materials for my line, which i'll hopefully be selling at Rumors soon.. i'm stoked.

i was hoping to take some outfit shots at the state fair today, but i don't know what i was thinking- it's the speedway.. i spotted about 800 hunting hats and a whole lot of camo in general, although ironically i was the only one rocking a mullet. here's a pic i snapped right before almost stepping in vomit:

purple haze

i've made plenty of garments, but almost all of them thus far have been modeled to a size 10 dress form, which in today's world is really about a size 4 (in other words, a size of the past for me) so i can't wear them. however, i took it upon myself to actually make a dress for my friend's wedding rehearsal dinner, and this is how it turned out:

this is a sketch of what the back was actually supposed to look like, but my stupid ass decided to go out the night before the wedding instead of staying home and finishing the dress. so yeah.. i was not packed at all when my mom picked me up, so i just threw everything into a bag, not realizing that i'd left the back piece at my friends house. i got really angry for a minute because i'm so idealistic when it comes to my designs, but i got over it, made do with it, and finished it 30 minutes before the dinner.
p.s. isn't kat the most beautiful bride ever? her dress was absoutely dreamy.

tanked

a quick question on yahoo!answers finally turned up the proper name of the movie that so heavily influenced my senior collection (considering i couldn't even remember what it was called): Tank Girl!
starring lori petty, not parker posey, as tank girl. i think it was the dark haired naomi watts as her sidekick, Jet, that threw me in the parker posey direction..

can you see the influence?

the first two are very tank girl-esque, but the last is more "mad max goes out for drinks", no?

this one is definitely one for the "beyond thunderdome" set. dress was made from the fabric of a skirt, and the vest from 2 sweatshirts left behind at my house from parties... don't leave your stuff at my place, or it will change form, heh heh:

this one was my favorite from the start! i will probably create a more wearable garment inspired by this design:

poor model was thisclose to a wardrobe malfunction with this half-assed bra thing:

smells like teen spirit

it's no big newsflash that grunge has been an up and coming trend for a while, and it's one that i particularly like. after all, one gets to old to be a punk rocker after a point, right? it started last year with my obsession with the movie "rules of attraction" and its gorgeously unique main character, lauren hynde (played by shannyn sossamon):

it's been on the runways for a few seasons:

fabulously embodied by miss elinkan:

i would sell a little piece of my soul for these boots, by JShoes. $250 is unfortunately entirely out of my self supporting starving artist budget:

speaking of grunge, i watched gus van sant's last days, a movie inspired by the last hours of kurt cobain, last night... and by watched, i mean that my sister and i fast forwarded almost the entire movie, compressing the 96 minutes into about 40. at one point, i had been watching it for 15 minutes when my sister said, "would you start the movie already?!" it is torturously slow moving, and we found that if you put it at the lowest level of FF, it still shows the subtitles and it still seemed that it wasn't going anywhere. i admire and love you, mr. van sant, but what the shit?

road warriors

as you may be able to tell, i am somewhat obsessed with the mad max movies and other similar movies of the post apocalyptic genre. back in may, 8 of us fashion design seniors funded and produced our own senior show. my line was inspired, of course, by mad max and what i THOUGHT was a parker posey movie called party girl, but i couldn't find anything on it. i'm not crazy, i know it exists! it's a live-action 90s movie that takes place in outer space and has giant rats. anyway, it added a more fun element to the dramatic costumes of the mad max movies. These are the only pictures i have for now, i will dig up better quality ones later:
